Suggestive Contours Over Point-Set Implicits

This paper presents a system that combines large pointset implicit surfaces with fast line-based rendering. We devised a new process for extracting suggestive contours quickly by using particles scattered throughout the surface to identify areas of interest, followed by clustering and linefitting. Furthermore, we improve on state-of-the-art methods for extracting silhouettes and feature-lines by harnessing the descriptive power of the surface representation. This provides heuristics for fast determination of curvature and allows for the local regeneration of shape-depicting line elements after editing operations. While visual examples illustrate the high quality of the drawings obtained with our application, as well as the high detail it can provide for more complex models, run-times show comparatively higher performance over similar approaches for the same
